Due to England playing and winning against Denmark yesterday, Obsidian’s regular live music night was quite an intimate one and it was nice to spend that time with others who aren’t really avid football fans either.
Not only did this give me the opportunity to perform some songs of mine such as ‘Wanderlust’, ‘Concrete Avenues’, ‘Serotonin Siren’, ‘Fragile’, ‘Go Vegan’ and ‘The Ghost of Love’ ….thanks to a rather professional sound….but I was also able to kick back on the sofa and let Rachael, Leo and Basic Blues Jones do their thing instead of being constantly on my feet busy entertaining and hosting the night.
Seeing as Rachael had other commitments, I dressed down from Miss Pretty in Pink PVC to The Princess of Dorkness….stuffed my guitar case with my Ibanez acoustic and basic gear…dressed up warm…snatched my mic stand so that I can attach my iPad with lyrics to it ….and bussed it to my fave local venue!
It’s a good thing I recently figured out that I can pay for things using my phone thanks to Apple Pay because before I discovered that useful hack….I would have to spend £3.70 instead of £1.70 to get an adult single ticket!
It’s also a good thing that I didn’t wear my pvc outfit because even with my red spaghetti camisole on…I was still sweating like a pigeon and Rachael even warned me before hand!
Another good reason for not wearing it is that I struggle enough as it is to get in and out of Rachael’s low rider Subaru!
Oh well….at least I can wear it at home for now before other opportunities “tap at my chamber door”.
I may or may not have mentioned this before but there is another reason why I love wearing it and that is because there are days when I get bored of being everyday me and so, I fancy being someone else ….
Although this time ….I’m still Yui/Waritsara/Ethereal and there’s no need for any more altered egos!
On the other hand….even my guitar case was slightly too heavy due to having taken my AC/DC power bank with me!
….and with no guided meditation group until next week ….I made the choice not to go to the trans support group AND there wasn’t a drawing group either.
I arrived at Obsidian around 6pm after Leo had arrived half an hour before me with his portable drum kit.
When I arrived….I saw a familiar face ….a face that resembles a real life Santa Claus…a face that I still see from time to time ….and the first ever person and other musician I met when I attended my first ever open mic at Chaplins & Cellar Bar in Boscombe around late 2011 or early 2012….
Mr ‘Basic Blues Jones’!
I’ve had so much respect for him because ever since I met him ….he’s always been playing his uplifting blues originals and even though I can’t get a single word he’s singing ….he still has some catchy songs and a foot stomping repertoire!
I was really hoping that he would play last night and fortunately he did ….and he had brought a £250 worth Roland acoustic guitar amp with one P.A stand which made us both sound very delightful.
His songs also brought back memories of all the stages and atmospheres of the open mic nights and festivals that we both graced in the past as well as reminding me that last night ….we were the most established local artists in the room!
I don’t really have anything to complain or rant about from last night apart from this Irish lady in her 50s who was obviously off of her rocker and came across as rather ungrateful after playing ‘Whiskey in The Jar’ and ‘Fields of Athenry’ for her.
At least she enjoyed Rachael’s rendition of ‘Danny Boy’!
A gentleman who’s name I cannot remember was also there last night and if it wasn’t for him AND Rachael….I probably wouldn’t have performed my own songs!
He also brought some hand instruments with him so we can keep ourselves busy as well as his own harmonicas and kazoo.
However, I have to remember to bring my violin with me next time!
As for today ….I knew that bottle of Corona and a slice of lime combined with larynx abuse from last night would make me feel slightly hungover but a promise is a promise ….and so, Rachael came over to get another song done for her album!
We did the best we could on it before it totally wiped me out and after today’s reflections are nailed ….I shall continue with it and send the demo over to her via whatsapp before she comes over tomorrow morning for the next track!
I’ve decided that seeing as Ethereal & The Elevated is now going really well and has a very hopeful future ….Rachael’s album will be the last thing I will do for others in regards to recording and being somebody’s producer.
I am sure I could still make time for all my other projects too seeing as those aren’t as demanding….
I’m E to the Z ….but nobody knows for how much longer….
Oh! And even though it’s my 41st birthday next Saturday ….my good friend Aki had made me an aptly named guitar pedal called a ‘Rat’ and donated it to me!
Let’s hope I can find the time to give it a go some time soon….
